“Classical Studies graduate turned EFL teacher” reads my Linkedin Bio. A whole 4 years ago I completed my 130 hour combined TEFL course with TEFL Org UK. At the time I didn’t expect it to have shaped my career the way it has, but given the wealth of job opportunities that have been made available to me it has been hard not to get sucked into the ever expanding world of teaching English as a foreign language EFL.
One of those jobs was working as a Language Assistant in Spain. Although the job didn’t necessarily require it, my TEFL course undoubtedly made me a better assistant, so when TEFL Org UK asked me to write about my experience I was happy to put together a post for them. For Christmas 2012, I got the 130 hour Combined TEFL from Tefl.org.uk (formerly known as TEFL England) from Santa Claus. 4 years on I can definitely say it was the best present I received since my toy kitchen in c. 1996. Here’s a rundown about my course and the endless opportunities it has afforded me since.
As of today I can no longer call myself an Auxiliar de Conversacion! Here are my thoughts having completed the programme, and the direction it has now taken me in.
Well I cannot believe it had been two months since I landed back in Madrid, and I have only just last night unpacked my belongings into my own cosy apartment in Malasaña. I feel like I haven’t stopped moving in two months and as much as it has [mostly] been a lot of fun, the relief I feel now I have a bed to call my own is delightful…
