South America 2016: Why End in Cusco?

After much deliberation I decided to cut this trip 6 months short, and have booked a flight home right in time for NYE. Why on earth did I do that? Well…

Back when I posted last, my head was in a bit of a mess. The dilemma of to go home or not to go home was driving me up the wall. On the one hand I knew that financially I couldn’t stretch my wallet much longer, and on the other I felt that to give up so easily would mean that I’d somehow failed as a traveller. Eventually I set all my options out on the table and took a good hard look at what I was doing, and it turned out my woes boiled down to more than just a dwindling bank account…

South America 2016: Semi-camas, Puppies, & Señor Budget.

5 and a half weeks… FIVE and a half weeks! I´ve officially been wandering around foreign places with my backpack for longer than EVER before. Not that that’s very long in the backpacking community, but heck it is long for me. I have travelled over 4000 kilometres  through 4 countries. It has been fantastic – BUT my back is killing me and it is long overdue a break from semi-camas and the giant turquoise Osprey creation I once thought was my Yeoseph (a.k.a. my soul mate). I am currently taking a time out in Taltal, Chile where I am going to be teaching English voluntarily for the next month. I suppose I should tell you about the  actual travelling I have been doing, but as I am in the mood for more reflective writing you are going to have to make do with the cliff notes version instead…

Brexit

This morning I woke up at 7am to see a blurry blue and yellow semi circle telling me that Britain had voted to leave the European Union.

I couldn’t quite believe it. The 3.9% difference was minuscule enough that I thought rubbing my eyes a few times would reveal something different. Alas, moments after I read the headlines, the final vote counts were in and that was that. We are leaving, and I’m royally pissed off about it. Continue reading “Brexit”

Life in Madrid ~ The City that Keeps Me on My Toes.

Well I cannot believe it had been two months since I landed back in Madrid, and I have only just last night unpacked my belongings into my own cosy apartment in Malasaña. I feel like I haven’t stopped moving in two months and as much as it has [mostly] been a lot of fun, the relief I feel now I have a bed to call my own is delightful…
